Description du produit
Brel is an enormously iconic figure in France and Belgium. His career took the slow route to deserved recognition, but his popularity was assured by the time of his early death in 1978.
This collection, released by Barclay, contains 40 songs, of which 5 are (controversially of course) previously unreleased.
Admirers of Brel's music and lyrics include David Bowie (Amsterdam, My death) Terry Jacks and Westlife (Seasons in the sun), Dusty Springfield and Nina Simone (If you go away), Scott Walker with his 'Sings Brel' album, Marc Almond and his tribute album to Brel and 70's bad boy Alex Harvey (Next).
Critique
Brilliantly passionate and incisive vocals over stunning arrangements on the borderline between jazz, classical and flamenco. --OMM - Molloy Woodcraft
Jacques Brel has arguably the greatest rep of any singer Mojo is likely to feature. Such is his cool factor, his sattelites - Scott Walker, Marc Almond, Jarvis Cocker, Nick Cave - are adored in his absence --Mojo - David Hutcheon
