Anita Loos was bon in California in 1893. She was a child prodigy who began writing movie scripts at the age of twelve, and later supplied film scenarios for D.W. Griffith and Douglas Fairbanks. First published in 1925, "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" was a bestseller in thirteen languages. As well as "But Gentlemen Marry Brunettes" is the author of two volumes of autobiography. She died in 1981.
