Présentation de l'éditeur
In her novels
Ellen Foster and
A Virtuous Woman, Kaye Gibbons has compiled what one critic has called "a fictional oral history of female wishes [and] hopes." That tradition continues in
A Cure for Dreams, a richly woven story that traces the bonds between four generations of Southern women through stories passed from mother to daughter to granddaughter. Gibbons shows us shrewd, resourceful women prevailing over hard times and heartless men and finding unexpected pleasures along the way: gossip, gambling, and the quiet satisfaction of knowing more than they're supposed to.
Revue de presse
"When it comes to hearing and replicating the way people speak, Kaye Gibbons has perfect pitch. . . . Years from now, [these] women's clear, strong words will still be resonating in my mind." —Anne Tyler,
Chicago Tribune
"Joyous. . . . What a good ear Kaye Gibbons has, and what a good heart.
A Cure for Dreams takes the reader down the back roads, and then points out what incredible lives are lived in those ordinary places." —
The Washington Post Book World
"Gibbons once again demonstrates her extraordinary talent. . . . Utterly engaging and convincing." —
The Boston Globe
"A witty and explosive story about men and women, bad girls and good girls, love and laundry." —
Houston Post
"Gibbons has written the compelling story of specific lives." —
Atlanta Journal-Constitution
