Présentation de l'éditeur Who were Stalin's diplomats in Europe? To what extent were they Stalinists? What networks did they use to gather information? By what means (financial or other) did they attempt to influence the press, particularly in Paris and Geneva, and to what ends? What happened to them during the purges? The political system established by Stalin in the USSR during the 1930s has remained in part an enigma because little attention has been paid to those who made it function. This book, based on unpublished archive material, begins to unveil the mystery. This is the first time a study has been made of the influence on Soviet foreign policy of the creation of a political system by Stalin. We discover from the inside and thus have a better understanding of the emergence of Soviet power on the eve of the Second World War.
