Atherosclerosis and Coronary Artery Disease

This work provides a guide to the pathophysiology, diagnosis, prevention and management of atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease. The book's opening section examines major risk factors - particularly hypertension and lipid abnormalities - and primary prevention strategies. This is followed by an examination of the pathogenetic mechanisms underlying atherosclerosis, including up-to-date research on the special roles of inflammation and immunity. Sections cover topics including: pathophysiology; clinical presentation; invasive and noninvasive diagnostic studies; and current pharmacologic, medical and surgical interventions. A concluding section on noncoronary atherosclerosis covers stroke and transient ischemic attacks, diseases of the aorta and peripheral arterial disease.
