Résumé

This volume studies the central place of the eighteenth-century women's novel on the development of this genre through an examination of the cross-cultural/cross-gender movement of ideas in the rewriting and re-working of texts by English and French novelists. Using Laclo's celebrated novel, 'Les Liasons danereuses,' as a focal point, the study aims to integrate important women writers of the eighteenth century, Marie-Jeanne Riccobini and Frances Burney, into the gender-limited critical studies of the French novel.
