Little did Pierre Bayard know when he began his military career that he would become the most famous soldier in the history of great French military men. Serving under three French kings, Pierre entered and distinguished himself in every major campaign that his country was involved in. From holding the bridge singlehandedly at Garigliano, against two hundred Spanish soldiers, to saving his country from English invasion, to becoming the only knight ever to knight a king, Bayard proved to be a marvelous soldier. When he died in battle, it was the first time in history of European warfare that both sides ceased fire to honor him at his funeral.
