Présentation de l'éditeur
The relationship between art, motherhood and child care has always been a fertile source of discussion and debate. This book, like its predecessors Medicine and Art and Surgical and Medical Treatment in Art, evolved from a series of articles written by Alan EH Emery on art and medicine in Clinical Medicine, the Journal of the Royal
College
of
Physicians
. In this volume, however, the authors have concentrated their attention on the biological, social and emotional elements of the unique relationship between mother and child. Each artwork, beautifully reproduced in full colour, is accompanied by an essay, tracing the history of mother and child care from Ancient Egypt to the present day. Featured artists include Rembrandt van Rijn, William Hogarth, Norman Rockwell and Alison Lapper, as well as numerous lesser known artists spanning the ages and the globe. The essays describe the relevance of each work of art and also detail the artists themselves, making this book a unique treasure trove of information for all who share in the authors' love of art, history, motherhood and child care.

Mother and Child Care in Art is an attractive and fascinating book that would be a welcome addition to any bookshelf, both at home or at work, and it provides a wealth of information for anyone who has an interest in art, history, motherhood and childcare. 5 Stars: Another beautiful bookI already have the two previous volumes and so cherished the news that a third was due to be published. The previous two have pride of place in my library and this one doesn't let the side down. A truly beautiful book featuring a wonderful collection of images. Finished at a very high quality this book is well worth every penny. (Amazon customer review, Sept 06)
