With DSOS1 (Designer Shock Operating System 1) Berlin-based collective Designershock explores new interaction opportunities between web and print, successfully defying the fixed format of conventional books. With a dash of daring the manual offers both a comprehensive selection of inovative fonts and vector graphics (see "Büro Destruct") as well as an assortment of ingenious content to be accessed exclusively via the enclosed digital medium. Here 80 specially created fonts, 98 icons, 23 screen savers as well as four graphic design tools await the daring user. At the same time DSOS! aims to playfully expand horizons and demands active interaction - to download bonus fonts the user has to prove his gaming skills, and the tools on offer, too, will only reveal their true worth in the actual application.
By softening the boundaries between book, site, toos and user DSOS1 generates unusual symbioses and design options, permitting the synthesis, modulation and active usage of pixel font layouts, screensavers, wallpapers or icons.
