Présentation de l'éditeur
Libby's father is a drunk, her mum wouldn't know the meaning of home cooking if it landed in her lap and her brother's in trouble with the police - but none of this matters, as Zack is interested in HER, not her home-life. But just as things are working out on the boy front, Libby's family lose their home, and have to move in with their gran. Libby has to start a new school, give up her plans for Zack, and leave her best friend Nadine behind. But slowly she discovers there really IS a silver lining to every grey cloud - and there's plenty to fall in love with in her new home: her gran's cooking, the school outsider who stands up to the bullies, and the deadbeat boy who wants to show her the beauty of the desert...

The Serious Kiss, by Mary Hogan
"zany in style... her quest has moments of dry humour and disconcerting self-realisation, contrasting with the real dangers and hardships in her life." The Bookseller, Teenage Reads Preview
"the title sums up the book but it certainly doesn't convey the depth and subtleties that the author has slipped in... [It] is like sailing down a river... there are rapid, fast-paced, unpredictable parts, then calm, smooth stretches, but it always flows until its end where it enters a writhing ocean of thoughts. Brilliant." 14 year old Elinor Smith, for Red House Bookclub
"Libby Madrigal is so flip and funny that at first you may mistake this as one of those mindless girl books...[but] as she unravels her family's many secrets and befriends the school nerd, she learns important lessons about friendship, family and herself. And she might just get that first big, serious kiss. This novel offers a wrenching portrait of an alcoholic family without ever preaching."
