Mind Your Manners: Managing Cultural Clash in the Single European Market

This practical guide for managers in the new Europe has been expanded not only to cover the three new members of the European Union - Austria, Finland and Sweden - but has also been generally revised and updated to reflect international developments, including a new section on Russia. In addition, the author has provided a new "toolkit" to enable readers to test their own cultural responses. Managers working in a multicultural environment often make two mistakes: they misunderstand the behavioural and cultural differences, or are over-sensitive and defensive. Both can lead to reduced effectiveness and alienation. This book addresses the crucial issues of: etiquette and manners; formal and informal meetings; social expectations; the legal and business framework; and the cultural styles of business. This business guide is aimed at managers of any nationality intending to do successful business in the world's biggest market. John Mole is the author of "Brits at Work".
