Résumé

Présentation de l'éditeur Jonathan Keates's passion for collecting historic guidebooks has resulted in a beguiling work of cultural archaeology, which explores the experience of travel for the British before the First World War. Unlike Lucy Honeychurch in E.M.Forster's A Room with a View, he revels in Baedeker, Murray and other Victorian examples, taking us on a poignant, funny and often revealing tour through this undiscovered genre. Biographie de l'auteur Jonathan Keates is a regular contributor to a number of newspapers and journals, including The Observer and the Times Literary Supplement. His latest work is a book of non-fiction, The Siege of Venice (2005), the story of Venice's last stand in 1848, against its Austrian rulers. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and teaches English at the City of London School.
